Dear Sinclair Families:

October is a key time for learning and growth at every grade level. Regular attendance is a key way that families can support your child(ren)'s academic growth. Regular attendance helps build stamina for learning in the classroom setting and strengthens connections with friends and peers.

One of our school goals is to make sure that more of our students attend 90% of the school year.  We are on track to meet this goal. This means that students should be absent for less than 2 days per month of the school year.  We understand that sometimes a child becomes too ill for school and we appreciate when they stay home until they are well enough to attend. This might mean missing a cluster of days, but typically this pattern of illness does not occur monthly. Please reach out if you need support to reset and reduce your child's absences or lates.

Recent School Highligts and Happenings

JEDI club under the care of Ms. Desarmia is underway with more than 50 interested students in Grades 5 to 8. The Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Club is responsible for a lot of initiatives that organize and support a sense of belonging at Sinclair. This includes Yard Pals where students will support and lead games with primary students. It also includes helping promote and collect socks for local shelters as part of Socktober! Thank you to Ms. Richards for leading this campaign. We have collected almost half our 500 pair goal. Please send in new, adult socks, if able! Members of the JEDI club also created the front display for Diwali, which started on Monday, October 20th and continues this week!

Cross-Country runners represented us well at last week's meet. We sent more than 42 runners to our regional meet and fourteen qualified for the district meet on Wednesday, October 22nd at Fort Henry! Thank you to coaches, Ms. Ambury and Ms. Gazeley, for your encouragement and time. Thank you to families for transportation and positivity! Go Stingers!

Senior and Junior Volleyball teams will compete again this year. Thank you to Ms. Desarmia and Ms. Eves for coaching the senior teams and Ms. MacDonald and Ms. Richards for coaching the junior teams. Go Stingers.

We are completing mandatory emergency procedure drills over the next few weeks. In developmentally appropriate ways, educators support students in following expectations during fire and lockdown drills. We have had two  of the three mandatory fall fire drills. We will likely have a lockdown drill next week. We highlight how well students stop and follow educator directions as they follow the lockdown drill procedure.

Our School Council will meet again on Wednesday November 5th at 6 pm. Our School Council is supporting the purchase of outdoor seating, art supplies, technology, lighting, a new scoreboard, field trips and classroom enrichment projects. Please consider joining this hardworking group. Student childcare providers are available to watch your school-aged children during the meeting.

The FCCC childcare program is hiring. See the attached information sheet.
