Code of Conduct

School Code of Conduct

Schools need to be a place that promotes responsibility, respect, civility, and academic excellence in a safe learning and teaching environment. A positive school climate exists when all members of the school community feel safe, included, and accepted, and actively promote positive behaviours and interactions.

The Limestone District School Boar's Code of Conduct is outlined in
Administrative Procedure 350: Codes of Conduct, and is based on the Provincial Code of Conduct and on standards of behaviour and safety.

These standards of behaviour apply to students whether they are on school property, on school buses, at school-related events or activities, or in other circumstances that could have an impact on the school climate. They also apply to all individuals involved in the publicly funded school system – principals, teachers, other school staff, parents, volunteers, and community groups.

RG Sinclair Public School Code of Behaviour

0ur School Code of Behaviour includes expectations for respect, civility, responsible citizenship and safety. It is defined by the Safe Schools Protocol established by the Limestone District School Board. The protocol defines clear and consistent expectations for desired conduct and consequences for inappropriate behaviour. The purpose of this code is because rules are necessary when people gather to learn.

The Code of Behaviour at R.G. Sinclair School articulates the rights of students and their need to feel comfortable, safe, and secure. In dealing with incidents of inappropriate behaviour, the principal shall be fair, firm, and consistent.

Effective implementation of the Code of Behaviour is a shared responsibility of the whole community. Parents, teachers, support staff, and other community members work together to model and teach behaviours that promote a positive and caring school environment for all students.

The foundation of all RG Sinclair’s Code of Behaviour is respect, civility and responsible citizenship.

These measures include teaching of character education traits; explanations and review of appropriate behaviour in the classroom, hallways and on the school yard; school-wide teaching of WITS Strategies; individual and groups discussions; implementing MENDing conversations; and referrals to Educational Services, District level supports and community supports.

Immediate, relevant, age-appropriate and developmentally-appropriate consequences will be implemented for violent acts and bullying. Harassment; physical, verbal (oral or written), sexual or psychological abuse; bullying; hate-motivated behaviours and discrimination on the basis of racial characteristics, culture, age, religion, gender, language, disability, sexual orientation, or any other attribute is unacceptable. The possession and/or display of weapons or replicas or imitations of weapons on school property will result in a suspension and in addition, may result in a recommendation for expulsion.
